England vs Montenegro

Updated: Aug 4, 2023

Hi,

Hope you're all well.

On Thursday 14th November I went to Wembley Stadium to see England Vs Montenegro.

I was the final Euro qualifiers at home in England. I went with my Carer Sarah and like all of the other times we parked in the red car park because we know its all accessible. Due to having school in the day and not finishing till 4pm we didn't end up leaving until 5pm. We then got stuck in traffic on the way there. Because of this we didn't arrive at the stadium in time for kick off. That also meant I couldn't meet my friend which was also arranged.

When we finally got to the stadium it was already 1-0 to England, we could hear the fans celebrating already. As we we're not going into the stadium at the same time as everybody else it meant there were not as many crowds to get through. By the time we got into the stadium it was only the 13th minute so luckily we hadn't missed too much.

This game was a very big achievement for us as it was our 1000th international game. I was feeling very lucky to be a part of it.

Gareth Southgate put out the youngest starting team at an average age of 23. For this match Raheem Sterling was suffering a one match ban after having a disagreement with Joe Gomez, which ended with Sterling grabbing Gomez around the neck. We were hoping that this would not effect the game.

The first goal of the game was scored by Oxlade-Chamberlain but that was the goal that I missed.

As soon as we go to our seats there was a penalty shout as the ball hit a Montenegro players arm but due to VAR not being in action there was no penalty given. We then had another attempt at a goal in the 17th minute but our attempt was blocked by the Montenegro goalkeeper. It didn't take long for us to make it 2-0 and in the 18th minute Ben Chilwell was able to whip the free kick into the box. It was met by the head of Harry Kane! England were looking very strong in the early stages of the first half being the dominant team. Then in the 24th minute Harry Kane put his name on the score sheet for the second time making it 3-0. This goal was also assisted by Chilwell from a corner.

Jordan Pickford was first called to action in the 26th minute after a Montenegro free kick ended up making its way into the box, but he made a brilliant save to keep it 3-0. England's night kept getting better and better and in the 30th minute we were able to make it 4-0. This time it came from Marcus Rashford after he was able to bury the ball in the bottom corner. The goals kept on coming and then in the 37th minute Harry Kane scored to finish off his hat trick and make it 5-0 to the England. After this England's defence started to "fall asleep" and Montenegro were able to get a ball through our two centre backs (Stones and Maguire) but luckily the finish was stopped by Pickford. England were able to keep the score at 5-0 until half time.

During the half time interval we went into the stadium to try and find a program because before the match we didn't have time to get one and we "ran" to our seats. Luckily there were some left in the merchandise area and I also got myself a match day scarf. As it was a special day for England some English legends went on to the pitch at half time to speak about the history of Englands football team.

The second half game started and we were hoping for more goals. There was no major activity during the early stages but in the 56th minute England made their first substitutions bringing Harry Kane off for Tammy Abraham and Oxlade-Chamberlain off for James Maddison to make his first senior appearance for us. Both players have been doing very well for their clubs so they both deserve to be in the England team in my opinion. As soon as Maddison came on he was trying his hardest to regain possession for England whenever the ball was lost. He was able to set up an opportunity for us in the 62nd minute but the chance wasn't then and the ball was headed over the bar. Then in the 66th minute England got their 6th goal of the game but this time it was an own goal from a Montenegro player but the fans were still very happy to see another goal. England's third and final change was in the 70th minute with Joe Gomez coming on in replace for Mason Mount. This was met by a few" boo's" over the stadium after what had previously happened with Raheem Sterling earlier in the week.

The 7th and final goal was scored by Tammy Abraham after the ball went from Chilwell to Sancho who was able to get down the left before whipping the ball into the path of Abraham. This was Abrahams first goal. The England fans celebrated like they did for all 7 goals still showing there support in large amounts making the atmosphere off the scale. This was the final piece of action for this game making the final score 7-0. My man of the match was Ben Chilwell because he managed to get 3 assists and also helped to keep a clean a sheet.

England are officially qualified for Euro 2020!!!!!!!!!!! Some of the games are going to be held at Wembley so I am hoping to be able to go to support my country. [Please Mum :) ]

I hope you enjoyed this, thank you for reading.
