Crystal Palace vs Huddersfield
Updated: Aug 4, 2023
Hello everyone,
Hope you are all well.
On Saturday 30th of March 2019 I attended the Crystal Palace vs Huddersfield match. If Huddersfield lost this game they were guaranteed relegation due to only being on 14 points.
The game started at 3pm. Both teams passing accuracy in the first half was very poor as they kept loosing the ball to each other. The first half was not very action packed with palace having a few shots on target but none going in. There really wasn't that much going on at all or to report on until the second half.
After a poor first half performance from Palace, there was some entertainment on the stand when two Palace fans decided to have a fight, that was pretty lively.
At half time Palace made their first sub bringing on James McArthur in place of Max Meyer who was given a start but was unable to deliver.
In the 50th minute Palace had a good opportunity when Townsend was in space but instead of shooting decided to pass it back to Batshuayi who missed the shot. The next opportunity came in the 68th minute when Zaha put Townsend into a 1v1 but he dragged it wide of the goal.
The second half was much better for Palace with many more chances. Palace made their second sub in the 73rd minute bringing Benteke on for Batshuayi. Benteke is still searching for his first goal of the season.
In the 76th minute, after some skill from Zaha in the box, he was brought down by a Huddersfield defender. The ref instantly pointed to the spot, Palaces top goal scorer makes no mistake and scored another great penalty.
In the 80th minute, Palace made their final sub bringing Townsend off for Kouyate. At the moment Huddersfield are being relegated as Southampton were beating Brighton.
In the 87th minute Zaha was through on goal but managed to drag his shot wide but............. in the 88th minute Patrick Van- Annholt finds himself in space and rifles the ball into the back of the net. Hopefully this gives him more confidence for the remainder of the season.
The game came to an end at 2-0 to Palace leaving Huddersfield being relegated to the championship with six games remaining in the premier league.
Match stats:
Palace had a total of 48.5% possession, Huddersfield had 51.5%.
Palace had a total of 19 shots with 5 on target.
Huddersfield had 15 shots with 5 on target.
